Sustainability

Our environmental commitment

We take pride in being a responsible, environmentally conscious printer at our facilities in Minnesota and Pennsylvania. It’s on us to work for the good of everyone—employees, customers, our community, the world. So we take careful steps all along the way, from the raw materials we use to the manufacturing processes we follow. Hefty fact: We recycled more than 15.5 million lbs. of paper in just one year.

A Better Paper Route

The challenge? Too much paper being wasted. The solution? Strategizing with customers to reverse the trend. By rethinking product design and using a more streamlined process, we recycled 15.5 million lbs. of paper last year. Our heatset web presses have automated register, color, cut-off, and ribbon control systems to minimize waste while maximizing quality. We use CIP 3® data to preset ink fountains prior to press start up, then fine-tune register and color to meet precise customer requirements.

We Think About Ink

It all starts with ink. We source ours from the environmentally-friendly INX. Our heatset and sheet fed inks are primarily soy oil-based and FDA-approved for food packaging. These oils are naturally renewable. They’re also integral to industry-best ink quality. Our scrap ink doesn’t end up in a landfill.

Our coatings are just as eco-friendly. We use Thermal Oxidizing to destroy Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and air pollutants produced in the printing process.

Paper

Specifying which paper to use is no flimsy decision. Sustainability and recyclability weigh in as much as grade, shade, basis weight, and certifications. We print on a range of papers to give you options, including Post-Consumer content up to 100%.

Our environmental initiatives have received attention outside the printing industry. We’ve received certificates from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) A.C., as well as the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®). We’re all proud of these awards, especially as we’re audited annually to maintain our status.

Good Keeps Getting Better

Over the past 25 years, we’ve kept improving. Our operating systems are in sync with the most current environmental and buildi ng codes. Our footprint remains small to comply with local, state, and federal regulations. We are always up to speed on new energy conservation methods to reduce CO2 emissions. As a company and a member of the community, we know there’s no such thing as being too energy-efficient.
